Religion =/= Faith

Posted by Emma - January 9th, 2012

1. Religion implies secular dependence and organization to confirm your belief.

2. Faith implies personal ability to believe without confirmation from religion.

Are we clear now?

Yes, Mylady :3

Lol Mylady ... I like that o-O

I agree completely. Thank you!

Pot of tea, anyone?

Just spreading my words of wisdom!

And yes, I would like a pot of tea :D

"...secular dependence and organization..."
Is that "secular (dependence and organization)" OR "(secular dependence) and (organization to confirm your belief)"?
Also the word "religion" implying something "secular" seems a little odd to me...

"Secular dependence" and "[secular] organization"

I am against most religion, but not the faith. Organizations that take advantage of you are religions, not faiths.

Its finally nice to see a person that has read the bible and knows what they are talking about. Thank you. I thought I was the only one XD

Lol thanks :)!

Alright. That's always been clear to me.

Well, you're one of the few sensible people on here haha

The comment religion is the one true religion because it says so right on this comment.

As majormeltheackboy said, I'm confuzzled o-O

I'm confuzzled.

Lol sorry :S

I disagree. Your view of what religion means sounds more to me like a cult. I see faith as personal beliefs which you hold to for your own reasons. When we're talking about faith in a god, that's when it becomes religion.

Doesn't mean one of us is right and one of us is wrong. People use words in different ways, their definitions don't always have to be absolute.

I'm assuming you're Christian, yeah? Are you saying Christianity is not a religion?

I think the word religion has become more descriptive of the organization of people rather than the faith. Christianity is a faith, but when you incorporate ritual and many secular church operations, it becomes a religion (ie: catholicism).

:)

I know this is entirely off topic, but how do you do in school?

Not very well at all, unfortunately.

Religion is overrated

I agree.

No, wait: We know God exists because Bible says so and God wrote the Bible so we know God exists because Bible says so and God wrote the Bible so We know God exists because Bible says so and God wrote the Bible so We know God exists because Bible says so and God wrote the Bible so... :P

Well, given the flawless accuracy rate of the Bible by secular standards (by history and predicted events), while still taking into consideration the vast cultural influences that do not hinder its validity in the slightest, I think it is reasonable to assume that what it says on critical matters should be taken seriously :)

Alright, my last contribution to this conversation and then I'll quit pestering you with my feeble agnostic mind B) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IAhDG YlpqY&feature=related

Pretty awesome video, I must say :)

...Wait...religion implies secular dependence and organization to confirm belief?

*looks in a dictionary*

Secularity - the state of being seperate from religion

*scratches head*

Alright then.

However, I agree with 2. Faith is the ability to believe without ANY confirmation ANYWHERE. There's no evidence required for faith. Indeed you could have evidence AGAINST a faith and people could still hold to it. I prefer to have neither faith, nor religion.

A square is a rectangle, a rectangle is not a square.

Solid point. I'll remember that tidbit.

Congrats for the Bronze Whistle :3

Thanks :D!

By the looks of your profile... I assume you're fat.

Will that make you feel more secure about yourself?
