Underground Report!

Posted by Emma - December 12th, 2011

I've been feeling rather sorry for a lot of people on here who are forced to listen to the trash on mainstream. So, here's some underground music that I listen to on a regular basis! At least try them out before going back to your Justin B. and Lil Wayne! (Links re-direct to YouTube).

Kraftwerk - Retro Electronica
808 State - Old School Techno
Hybrid - Electronica
Logistics - Drum & Bass
Omni Trio - Ambient D&B
Gofman & Tsukerman - New Trance
Tin Star - 90's Tech-Rock
Ladytron - Dance Techno
Chicane - Trance
Aly and Fila - Trance
Audiovent - Alternative Rock
Bionic Jive - Hard Rock
Ra - Exotic Nu Metal

Those are only a few of the unknown greats! Instead of listening to just what you see on front pages, why not explore the artists who have a very small fanbase. There are some real goldmines down there - even some that aren't retro at all!

That is all.

Only heard of Kraftwerk and 808 State.

I think those were the ones I showed you before, right? I forgot lol

Aly and Fila are awesome, I listen to each of their episodes on Digitally Imported.

They have such good remixes!

I found the music video "Robots" on my own but still need to finish. You did show me 808 State though ;)

I know I've recommended Squarepusher before but you can never get enough of him:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnZVY7 ksMr0

Or Venetian Snares if Glitch isn't your thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbJ63s pk48s

They are both amazing! Lol Squarepusher is one of the most unique sounds I've heard - even above Doctor P dubstep :P

You have earned a lot of respect from me for having Kraftwerk on that list! A lot of people don't realize how much they have influenced modern electronic music. They are truly 'old school'!

Absolutely :)! They were really the pioneers for computer-generated music!

you listen to Kraftwerk?
i used to have a Kraftwerk cd around here somewhere but i lost it :/
and i MIGHT have heard Tin Star before it sounds familiar

I love Kraftwerk, lol. I have two of their CD's :)

And, Tin Star appears randomly in places that you wouldn't be looking. It's almost like an easter egg to find them, haha. You've probably heard one of their songs before.

Maybe "Disconnected Girl"?

i had computer world...
and i think its that
it does sound familar

Yep yep :) there were two versions I think

I know the sound quality is terrible but my hypersensitive ears prevent me from closing this tab: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkDk4F 0WHBs

Do You Know Squarepusher and Unreleased.

I will check it out as usual :D

I heard one of ladytrons songs in littlebigplanet 2.

Yeah she is more popular than most of the others :)

How in the hell did I forget that I just recommended the original version to you a while ago? Oh well. I like the bass in the live version :P

Hahaha still good :P

And speaking of which....Aly and Fila Episode 215 just started now on DI.FM :P

Ahhh I missed it :(

KROWEMK

Lol, what?

Huge fan of ambient over here!

If you're looking for some more ambient artists check out Tycho, Helios and Carbon Based Lifeforms :D

I personally recommend them, they have some awesome stuff

Awesome! I like ambient as well :)!

^^Name change.

I get it now lol

how u 28.66 per day

I get asked this question every other day.

I started off on my first day posting regularly and it eventually gave me an 80+ p/d. Even on day two, I wasn't posting as much. But, the math on this site does not indicate the true posting rate after a few weeks. I only made about 7 posts last night I think, but my p/d only went down .40. All that number does is divide my total posts by my sign-up date. If I wanted an 80 p/d back (I don't), I would have to post at a rate of 200 starting today.

I'll stick with Justin Biber and Kayne West.

Undoubtedly the best artists of ALL time!

Damn. I can't even joke about that without feeling like I should perform Seppuku just for mentioning it and watch myself slowly bleed dry.

I threw up a little.

xD

Call me a poptimist, but I love the mainstream.

Poptomist >:(!

Allow me to elaborate: I don't love everything the mainstream has to offer, but I acknowledge and love that not all of it is crap. And even the stuff that is crap is so mind-numbingly catchy and stupid that I don't care.

I also mix in the mainstream with the independent, underground, whatever I tend to find. To me, seriously I can listen to two completely opposite artists (in every meaning of the term) back to back and love them both equally.

Well yeah, SOME of it is good. But for the most part, I would prefer artists that are not influenced by shallow expectations.

it's nice to see people respect music in general and not target genres :)

If you want more proof (and/or want to vomit), my latest news post should prove I mean it. I mean.... no, just read it yourself. You'll see.

I really do try (and sometimes, it's really hard) not to see genres. Music is music, even if celebrity culture is more or less affecting it for the worst.

I must ask now, people are listing their year-end best-of lists. What's your fave album or song from this year, Ms. Volt?

Haha oh okay.

I haven't been paying attention to songs/albums of the year :) the last album I cared about was the latest from Linkin Park, haha.

^You're gonna have to repeat that.

Lol I can't explain it.
